Day-to-Day
Timing of the School Day
The doors open for morning registration at 8:30 a.m. The first lesson or assembly begins at 8.45 am. A prompt arrival is appreciated. The pick-up time for the children is 3.00 pm each day. This is 12.15pm on the last day of each term.
Morning Break.
Please provide your child with a healthy snack for break time. This may be fresh or dried fruit, or seeds. We do not allow nuts, sweets or chocolate, fizzy drinks or fruit juices.
Lunch
A healthy, nutritious meal, using organic ingredients, is provided each day. Children are encouraged to try everything on their plate but they do not have to eat it. Pupils are reminded to drink plenty of water throughout the day . Pupils are encouraged to use a water bottle and there is access to a water fountain. If your child is susceptible to mood swings or a lack of motivation/concentration, this can often be alleviated by a pattern of regular and healthy eating and drinking that supports successful learning.
Contact with Staff
Home/school Diaries form an important link between home and school. Staff will write messages as necessary and sign the diaries on a daily basis. We would be grateful if parents could do likewise to aid communication. Abingdon House School values teamwork and the partnership between parents and staff.
Homework
Homework is always more successful if it is built into a routine at home. Staff will always be on hand to discuss general homework problems and give advice on how to tackle issues such as time management and routine. If there is an issue about a specific piece of homework, the homework diary can be used as a means of communication with the relevant teacher.
