Duke of Edinburgh Award
This term has seen the start of the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award for all pupils in Hawking and Edison classes. DofE is the world’s leading youth achievement award and gives young people the opportunity to engage in new physical activities and skills, develop life skills and support their community through volunteering.
One of the key (and possibly most exciting) parts of the DofE Bronze Award is the expedition. Hawking and Edison are already developing the skills they will need during the 2-day expedition, which will take place in the Summer term. So far they have learned about the kit they will need, map reading and route planning and have practised putting up their tents. With plenty of time before the planned expedition we will also be learning basic first aid, how to cook with a camp stove, more map reading and route planning skills, compass skills and teamwork.
Dates for the expedition to follow soon!
