Wellbeing and Mental Health update

Welcome to our new weekly wellbeing update! Below you will find the latest news and updates on wellbeing and mental health. If you have any questions about wellbeing or mental health please do not hesitate to get in touch with Mrs Cullen or Mrs Carella.

Across the school children and staff have been taking part in mindful meditation. At its most basic level, mindful meditation helps train attention to be more aware of what is actually happening, rather than worrying about what has happened or what might happen. There is a growing body of research that mindful meditation benefits both young people and those who care for them, with numerous studies showing that it can improve attention, emotional regulation and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.

At Abingdon, mindfulness is delivered during our wellbeing mornings and we have been really impressed with how well the children and staff have engaged with it. If you would like to practice mindful meditation with your child this video is a really useful starting point; Playing Attention by MiSP

For further reading, The Mindfulness in Schools Project (MiSP) website offers useful information and resources on mindfulness as well as some interesting research into the benefits of mindfulness.

Have a lovely weekend!
